Guignard, of course, is known for his lightly surreal, dreamy landscapes with gorgeous colors. It is nearly impossible to find a review of his work that does not focus on this. But, to focus on his landscapes is to misapprehend him entirely.
His landscapes were but one aspect of a deeply thoughtful man. His portraiture reveals the true genius of his art, and the complexity of his character.
